Lesson 3: Safe Web Browsing
Lesson 3 of 6
Websites can be helpful and informative, but some are designed to trick visitors. This lesson shows you how to browse safely.
What Is a Website?
A website is a collection of pages on the internet. You visit websites using a browser such as Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox.
Check the Website Address
- Look for the correct website name (spelling matters)
- Be careful with extra words or numbers in the address
- Secure sites usually start with https://
- When unsure, type the address yourself
Pop-Ups and Warnings
Pop-ups that say your computer is infected or demand immediate action are often scams.
Avoid: "Your computer is at risk! Call now!"
Better: Close the page or browser safely
Downloading Safely
- Only download from websites you trust
- Avoid "free" offers that seem too good to be true
- Ask for help before installing new programs
Remember
You do not need to click everything you see online. Taking your time and closing a page is always okay.
